Tuesday night was the Annual Meeting of the Garrett County Arts Council at the Gallery at 206 E Alder Street in Oakland, Maryland. It was a gala event with lots of people, good food and wine, elections and awards. The awards for the lst Annual Member's Show were given out. This show is really nice with a wide diversity of work by 22 artists. Hopefully it will become an annual event for the Arts Council.

Beginner's Watercolor Workshop

How about these for a first time paintings?    Amazing!  The first three day beginners watercolor workshop has ended.    Their first painting project was to do negative painting around a  maple leaves.

The second project was a "follow Sue" landscape.   I always use this lesson with beginners because it was the first painting I ever did with Alexis Lavine.   It worked for me and it seems to work for others.

Pretty terrific work for first timers.   We  had a great time together.
The Beginning Watercolor workshop was sponsored by the Garrett County Arts Council in Garrett County Maryland.   It was held at Deep Creek Lake State Park and taught by local artist, Sue Arnson.
There will be a follow up workshop for these students later in the summer.

Watercolor Classes

For a long time I have wanted to teach a beginners watercolor class and I mean for novice, never picked up a paintbrush kind of beginners.  We will learn about watercolor paper, paints, brushes, where to buy supplies, values, drawing and more.   We will begin by making a color wheel and finish by doing a landscape painting.  I am so looking forward to being able to give to others what was taught to me.   Painting is truly a joy in my life and, hopefully, one of these people will find that joy.   The maximum number of participants for the class is 8, the last I heard we had 6 people signed up.  If you want to join us call me, Sue Arnson, at 301 245 4528 or the Garrett County Arts Council at 301 334 6580.  The cost is $70 (including materials).   The class will  meet at the Discovery Center at Deep Creek Lake on the 15, 16,17 of June.
