Artist Studio Tours 2010

It was a wonderful weekend of sharing art with the people of Western Maryland.  Saturday was as hot as it gets in Garrett County and yet the people came, then more came and they kept coming.   None of us got an accurate count because they kept coming.   It was great fun showing our crafts to the people.   All five of us had a grand time.   We ended the day with some burgers, hot dogs and salads on the back deck at the Arnsons.    A great ending to the day, being with fellow artists as the sun sank.
Sunday came and, again, the people arrived.   There was a brief break when a tornado watch was issued for Garrett County.   The sky opened up, it rained and the people came back to look at art and talk with us.  We guessed that we had between 100 and 120 folks came to see art.

Pam Snyder's pots were filled with Blacked Susans.

Alan Arnson had a display of his wood work in his workshop.

Isn't Meg Romareo's Adirondack chair fabulous?

Sue Arnson's studio was beautiful with the sunflower arrangement Pam made.
Sorry, Jim you escaped too quickly for me to get a photo of your terrific photos.

Next year's Studio Tour is July 30 & 31.

Artist Studio Tours

Garrett County Arts Council present the 2010 Artist Studio Tours for the people of Western Maryland, Allegany County, Garrett County and Deep Creek Lake to enjoy.    There will be 35 artists at 13 locations. Some of the artists are offering their studios to "guest" artists.   At the Loft Shop we will host Pam Snyder and her wonderful pottery.   Pam will be located in one of our out buildings.   Jim Lawrence, photographer, will be in the lower level of The Loft Shop.  Meg Romero will have her "over the top furniture" at our guest house.    And , of course, Alan and Sue Arnson will be in their respective work spaces chatting and demonstrating their crafts.     This is always an exciting weekend for us because it gives us a chance to share our beautiful property with other artists and art lovers.

Check my blog on Monday when I will post photos of the event.

Saturday Demo

Thanks to the Women's Civic Club's funding, the Garrett County Arts Council has had artists demonstrating at the Gallery at 206 E Alder St in Oakland Maryland.   Today was my turn.  Actually it was Fred Peacock's turn, but due to a recent bad fall, he was not able to demonstrate, so I filled in for Fred.  It is always fun to paint for people and talk about the process.

I had started this little 5 x 7  early this morning and was going to do some stuff to it at The Gallery.
I had left my easel and palatte when some kids came in and messed around with the paints and put this blue paint all over the palette.   I was a bit put out but decided to play with the blue.  The above sketch was the product of utilizing cerulean blue when I had no intention of using that color.

I wanted a dramatic sky in this lake painting which I painted as my demonstration painting.

The set up.
My next demo is at New Germany State Park on August 14.

Art in the Park

It was an unbelievably beautiful weekend in Garrett County for Art in the Park at the Deep Creek Lake State Park.   It was a terrific art event with 50 vendors.

The 10 x 10 EZ Up tents lined the road from the entrance to the Discovery Center.  People saunter along the road, looking at art, chatting with vendors and doing some shopping.

The Loft Shop was there with paintings, wood work and earrings.

On Saturday Jerry McGee strolled along the path, playing his bagpipes.

Across the path from us was Mike Edelman's fabulous iron work.  It was fun spending the weekend talking "art" talk.   His work is displayed at Spruce Forest Artisan Village and worth going to see.
(we are fortunate to have had a piece of his for a couple of years)

Next to us was Guy Hinebaugh and his terrific photography.
It was a fine week end for the arts of Garrett County.   Congratulations to the Friends of the Park and Garrett County Arts Council for putting on such a great event.

Art in the Park

This weekend is Art in the Park at Deep Creek State Park in Garrett County Maryland.    It will be a wonderful outdoor event on the shore of Deep Creek Lake with 30+ vendors, good food, tye dying for the kids and more.   Always a fun weekend.
We are taking The Loft Shop and a 10' x 10' EZ up tent.   Perhaps the best entertainment will be watching us put up the tent.  (What are people our age doing putting up a tent?)
If you are in the area, come on by and see us.
