Photographs

Springs, PA
Taken on a "shoot" with James Bowser.

As we approach the beginning of the 25th year of The Loft Shop, I began to look for new photographs to sell in the shop.   It is always fun for me to go through my photos because each one conjures up the memory of when I took the picture and who I was with. Here are three I have enlarged for the shop.

The Woodworker

Alan has been in his workshop these past weeks. . . . finally.   It was so cold during most of the winter that he couldn't get it warm enough to work.   Despite the chilly month of March, it was warm enough for him to get out there and create.    Our potter friend, Josh Brown, works with porcelain, glazing with crystals.  Alan has gotten some lids from Josh and made bowls for the lids.   He has had a great time working with some new kinds of wood that Peter gave him for Christmas.

watercolor monotypes

In Garrett County, spring is a fluctuating season.   In this past week we have gone from snow flurries to temperatures in the high 70's (accompanied by a tornado warning) to rain/fog and 40 degrees.   I have been trying to figure out how to do watercolor monotypes.   Jean Barnes Downs invited me to come to her studio on one of those 40 degree foggy, wet days for a "play date".  What a fun day we had talking art talk, painting, lunch with her husband Ray and printing.   I learned much from her and enjoyed the sharing of our art.

Crocus

Despite temperatures in the 30's today, the crocus have decided to risk it and bloom.   Such a welcome sight.   It gives us hope that winter may actually end in Garrett County.  Meanwhile it is perfect weather to work in the studio.   Today's projects include matting and framing, beading on felted silk, drawing, and dying silk scarves for future felting.   Lots to do at this time of year to get ready for the Loft Shop.  Last weekend we had our first customers.

April in Garrett County

The first weekend of April is "spring" according to the calendar.   Check out this photo I took on Saturday.
It snowed all day long.   We ended up with 7"s of snow.   Welcome Spring!!
